Can the Chevy Equinox beat the Chevy Silverado?

Published by George Lippy under Chevy

If you are looking for a vehicle in the $20,000 to $30,000 price range then you should consider the Chevy Equinox and the Chevy Silverado. When you think about it, fuel economy is a very important factor to consider when choosing a vehicle, and each of these two Chevy products can get at least 20 miles per gallon on the open roads of America’s highways. Both vehicles have the option of a V6 engine and of course a choice of automatic or standard transmissions. There are plenty of options and extras to choose from when customizing your new vehicle including a moon or sun roof, sound system upgrades, and much more.

With a starting MSRP of only $21,235 the Chevy Silverado can be a great deal for someone who needs that lower price as well as the power a good mid-size pickup truck can provide. Weighing in with a $22,995 starting MSRP the Chevy Equinox can seem like it is a little more expensive, but one needs to consider also the much improved fuel economy of the Equinox versus the Silverado. The Equinox is more of a get where you’re going with less gas sort of vehicle, whereas the Silverado is more of a haul more stuff and get there faster vehicle.

If fuel economy is a concern for you, you’ll definitely benefit from the purchase of a Chevy Equinox which can get as much as 32 miles per gallon on the highway and 22 miles per gallon for in town driving. If you need power more than you need fuel efficiency, the Chevy Silverado might appeal to you more with its increased engine power available as a standard option on the robust mid-sized pickup. Of course the differences in engine power and overall design are going to influence the fuel economy of both vehicles and you should balance your need for towing power with your fuel budget, as well as what kind of interior space best fits your needs.

So it all depends on which one you need more, fuel economy or power? Different life styles and workloads require different sets of equipment so weigh your options and determine which vehicle is best for you. The Chevy Silverado can produce up to 356 horse power with its 5.3 liter V8 engine which can run on E-85 and/or flex-fuel. With up to 10% ethanol included in typical unleaded gas batches available across America it would not be a bad idea to purchase a vehicle equipped to handle the changes. The Chevy Equinox has a 2.4 liter and a 3.0 liter engine, with four and six cylinders respectively which give it plenty of power to get you where you need to go, but might not be as effective as other options if you plan on making frequent trips with a trailer or the trunk space loaded to the maximum.

Both standard and extra options and available features are something worth looking into on the Chevy Equinox and the Chevy Silverado. Audio equipment can be customized as can wireless technology, four wheel drive capability, and even a built-in navigation system is available for your consideration. The Chevy Equinox also can come with a moon roof or sun roof, and the Chevy Silverado can come equipped with a four wheel drive system to make those rougher rides all that much easier to get through; it is also very beneficial for towing and handling. Climate control even has the potential for enhancement with heated leather seats available in the higher-end models of both vehicles.

Do you think you have a pretty good idea of what all is included with the Chevy Silverado and the Chevy Equinox? Of course there are differences in appearance, available features, price, and fuel economy between the two vehicles, but they are designed for difference markets so this is to be expected to an extent. Whether you are a family in need of some fuel-efficient transportation with more interior space or a working individual who can be a bit rough on heir chosen car or truck, you will find yourself comfortable in both the Chevy Silverado and the Chevy Equinox.

What do you think of the Chevy Equinox that strikes your fancy or a Chevy Silverado, you are sure to find what you need when visiting a new or used Chevy dealer in your town!. This article, Can the Chevy Equinox beat the Chevy Silverado? is available for free reprint.

Travel In Style With The 2011 Chevy Suburban

Published by Rachel Sparks under Chevy

Looking for a rugged, stylish and luxurious large SUV that can seat 8-9 people? The Chevrolet Suburban SUV also has impressive towing and hauling capabilities. Despite its immense size, the Suburban offers excellent handling and fast acceleration. One drawback is that it consumes a large amount of fuel due to its size, weight and truck based platform. There are three trim levels available; the base model LS, LT and the upscale LTZ. Chevy Irvine offers a large selection of new and used vehicles.

Let’s take a look at the two engine choices available. The six cylinder with 352 hp and 382 lb feet of torque is more than enough for every day driving and provides for quite a burst of power when accelerating and merging on the freeway. For those who plan to tow often and like a strong engine there is the V8 6.0 Liter which puts put 320 hp and 382 lb feet of torque. The standard six cylinder engine gets a total of 10 mpg in the city and 16 mpg on the freeway. Not very good figures but keep in mind that the Suburban is a very large car.

All models come with the ability to use Bluetooth, power seats, an advanced climate control system and 17″ rims. Update to the mid trim level LT and you get to sink into buttery soft leather seats and an upgraded sound system with nine speakers for premium sound. If you’ve got the cash, the top of the LTZ comes with seats which can be heated (perfect for those cold winter mornings), 20″ aluminum wheels, a touch screen navigation radio and a rearview camera (perfect for backing up or reverse parking). Lifting and unloading heavy groceries or anything else is easy because there is a liftgate in place.

Let’s take a look at the safety features; seatbelts are in place with pre tensioners which tighten up during impact. A vehicle anti theft system comes standard while Stabilitrak Electronic Stability Control adjusts the torque of the engine to keep the SUV stable during critical moments. Trunk space is enormous; a total of 45.8 cubic feet of cargo space is available which can be increased further to 137.4 cubic feet with a few adjustments.

If you have a family of 7-9 people then the Suburban would be perfect. If your family is a lot smaller then it probably wouldn’t be the best choice due to gas prices. Pricing starts at $41,335 for the base model.

Indy 500 Camaro SS Pace Car Giveaway Contest by The David Foster Foundation

Published by Jeromeah M Davies under Chevy

Grammy award winning songwriter and producer David Foster and music artist Seal are set to preform the National Anthem at this years 100th Anniversary Indy 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Foster’s foundation, The David Foster Foundation, will give away a collectors edition 2011 Chevy Camaro SS replica of the Official Pace Car of the Indy 500.

The foundation was formed many years ago when David saw a need to help families of children needing organ transplants. These families are regularly far away from home and family. Visiting an organ transplant patient, a little girl at the UCLA Medical Center in Las Angeles (in 1986), Foster realized he could make her dream come true with the cost of a plane ticket for her sister who wasn’t able to come with her family. All she wanted was to see her sister, and this was the start of the foundation.

The foundation works to save lives in the USA by creating awareness of organ donation, and getting more people to register to become donors. In Canada, the foundation helps families by assisting with non-medical expenses when their children have life saving organ transplants. They also provide assistance for travel, food and clothing to support families relocated in hospitals far from their homes, friends and family.

This year, The David Foster Foundation has coordinated a contest with the help of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Indy 500, and Chevrolet, who also celebrates their centennial anniversary this year, in order to drive organ donor awareness. This program is designed to educate Indy Car Series race fans and all Americans alike about the facts of organ donor registration on a website called Be A Donor, Save A Life. Here users can enter the Camaro SS sweepstakes, pledge to support the foundation, and learn how to become an organ donor in the state where they live.

With more than 100,000 individuals currently in need of life-saving organ transplants in the US alone, and new names added every 10 minutes. The national organ transplant waiting list seems daunting. With your support the foundation can help save lives. Almost twenty people die every day simply because there are not enough organ donors, and therefore not enough organs available for transplant.

Please donate to the David Foster Foundation. Your support will help to save lives, and you could win a new 2011 Chevy Camaro SS, the Official Pace Car of the 100th Anniversary Indy 500 while lenaring more about organ donation.

History of the Chevy Camaro

Published by Kristen Wesch under Chevy

Chevy began designing a new sporty coupe back in 1958. They were in no hurry to get it to production until Ford released it’s first Mustang in 1964. Ford monopolized the market that year with almost 500,000 units sold and Chevy knew it needed to rally – fast.

While in the production stage, the Camaro was code-named “Panther”, the official GM project name for the car was XP-836 and there are a few archived photos that show the name “Chaparral” badged on the final Camaro body. Ultimately, the name “Camaro” stuck and the car was released to the public as such. When asked to define what a “Camaro” was, the product managers told the press it was “a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs”.

The first generation Camaro appeared on the market in 1967. It solidly responded to the “unsafe at any speed” tag that was placed on it’s predecessor, the Corvair, buy utilizing a front-engine, rear-drive configuration…. just like the Mustang. It was available in four different models, including a convertible and was designed to accommodate any one of six available engines under the hood.

Sales of the 1969 models extended into early 1970 until the release of the Second Generation in February. Some of the 69′s were titled as 70′s which created some confusion. The Second Generation actually started with the 1970 1/2 and remained in production for 12 years until 1981. Inspired by Ferrari, Gen 2 was bigger and heavier and the convertible body style was removed from the line-up. Although they still offered seemingly endless engine options, emissions regulations and power rating changes in the industry slowly squashed the engines’ outputs. In spite of the weaker pulse, the 1977 model holds the bragging rights to landing the Camaro ahead of the Mustang in sales by almost 40,000 units. Sales remained strong through 1979, which proved a banner year for the company with sales pushing the 300,000 unit mark – a number which they have yet to repeat. Sales dropped considerably in 1980 and 1981 which prompted the re-design and subsequently the Third Generation Camaro.

1982 ushered in the third generation, and a truly all-new Camaro design. The engine options were still disappointing at best, starting on the low end with a 2.5L, 90hp powderpuff and the ability to option up to a carburated V8 that put out 165. But, first-time offerings like factory fuel injection, four speed automatics, five speed manuals, 16 inch rims and a hatchback were enough to keep the public buying. The star of Gen 3 was the IROC-Z which was introduced in 1985. It’s Tuned Port Injection engine could crank out 215hp that was welcomed with open arms by the power-starved, but loyal Camaro fans. The big engines (and the convertible) officially returned in 1987, and by 1991 they had bumped the output up to 245hp.

The Fourth Generation Camaro was produced from 1993 through 2002. The line-up was slashed to just two models, the 160hp, V6 sport coupe and the Z-28 which boasted Corvette’s 5.7L, LT1 V8 and it’s 275hp. The convertible was, once again, removed from the production line. Power upgrades continued annually through the Fourth Generation models and finally broke into the 300hp range in 1996 with it’s SLP engineered SS model. The first all-aluminum engine since 1969 was offered in 1998 in the form of a small-block LS1 V8. A beast of an engine packing 305hp that was boostable to 320 with the available ram-air induction system. The Camaro remained virtually unchanged through 2002 except for some small engine and accessory add-ons and a few graphics packages. 2002 was the last production year for the Chevy Camaro for eight long years.

Enthusiasts rejoiced with the return of the Camaro in 2010. With it’s design based largely on the 1969 model plus enough new-age advances to satisfy today’s car shoppers, the Fifth Generation Camaro came out of the gates a huge success. The LS and LT versions come equipped with a V6 that spouts over 300hp, and the grunt of the line-up, the SS, comes with a 6.2 liter V8 that smacks down 426hp.

There’s no doubt that 2010′s return of the Camaro marks it’s best design yet. With it’s above-average power and performance and Chevy’s history of continually improving their line-up, it looks like the Camaro will be here to stay (and welcomed) for a long time to come.
