How do I know how much air to put in my tires?
I looked at my tires this morning and the front tires look lower than the rear. The side of the tire says 44 psi. I checked them with a gauge and it reads 33 psi. Are my tires leaking? Should I set them to 44 psi?
Response:
The 44 psi On the side of the tire is the MAXIMUM pressure that the tire capable of holding according to the tire manufacturer. To find the vehicles correct tire pressure, there is a decal inside the door jam or glove box. In most cases the pressure is between 30 psi and 35 psi. Do not put more than suggested or the tires will wear premature.
Almost all vehicles will have the appearance of low front tires compared to the rear as they carry the weight of the engine and transmission over them. This is normal.
