what kind of short in electrical system could i be having that draws power from battery even when car is off

Published by admin under Uncategorized

99 saturn sc2 that i bought used and was wondering what kind of short in electrical system could i be having that draws power from battery even when car is off. i put in new battery two weeks ago and had to jump car today to get it started.

Answer:

you have is called a parasitic drain, something is remaining powered up when the vehicle is shut off. It can be the radio, they sometimes short internally, a glove box, vanity mirror, trunk or under hood light are some other possibilities, other areas to check are the alternator,or any add on accessories.I will send you some information on this and some basic test you can do using a test light.

YOU COULD PULL THE KEY OUT IN ANY POSITION

Published by admin under Uncategorized

I HAVE A 2003 SATURN VUE AWD. WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE LOCK CYLINDER, YOU COULD PULL THE KEY OUT IN ANY POSITION. I CHANGED THE TUMBLER AND KEY SET. JUST PRIOR TO CHANGING THESE PARTS(WHAT MADE ME DO IT TO BEGIN WITH) A 12 PACK OF SODA FROZE AND EXLOPED IN THE BACK SEAT OF THE TRUCK AND GOT OVER THE WHOLE INSIDE OF THE TRUCK. AFTER WIPING DONE THE INSIDE OF THE TRUCK THE BATTERY WENT DEAD. COME TOO FIND OUT THE STEREO POWER WAS STAYING ON. NOT JUST THE LIGHT BUT IT HAS FULL POWER LIKE THE KEY WAS ON.?

Answer:

the radio will need to be removed and power checked on the Accessory Power feed wire. If there is no power on that wire, but the radio is still on, then the radio is the issue. If there is power on the wire, then there is a short to power. Make sure to test the wire with the radio unplugged.

the back axle seems very noisy. It doesn’t clonk but it’s loud.

Published by admin under Uncategorized

I have a 1999 BMW Z3 with the basic engine. I like the vehicle a lot, but the back axle seems very noisy. It doesn’t clonk but it’s loud. Is this normal? I realise that it’s very close to the driver.

Answer:

You are right you can usually hear some noise from the rear axle area because you are so close to the rear axle,Having said that the noise may be due to various factors.

Firstly i would check the tires if good quality tires are not used these can create harsh road noise. Also i would recommend getting the vehicle on and ramp and running vehicle up to 30 mph (turn of traction control if fitted) and listen to the rear axle to see if this produces any grinding type noise.if you also have access to a stethoscope this can be placed on each rear stub axle next to the dampers to check if the rear wheel bearing are noisy if the these are ok and no excessive noise can be found from the rear axle i would check the rear axle oil.

1999 Saturn SC2 almost all of the lights in my dashboard went out

Published by admin under Uncategorized

I drive a 1999 Saturn SC2; it’s a 4 cylinder, and has 3-doors. Two and a half weeks ago, almost all of the lights in my dashboard (speedometer and fuel tank indicator light) with the exception of the mileage light/ticker, went out while I was driving during the afternoon. Then tonight a friend noticed that both my tail lights are now out, but the brake light still works.   I plan to take the car in to a mechanic tomorrow afternoon, but I would like to have an idea what I am up against: blown fuse/light or shot electrical system?

Answer:

You may have a a bad headlight switch or the Park Fuse in the underhood junction block may have burned open, Check the fuse first, it is located here. 2nd row third from right the red one in the left front of the engine compartment. If the fuse is blown there is a reason that needs to be found.
