It seems to have a lifter noise that comes an goes
Question:
I have a 2004 sebring, with 45,000 miles. It seems to have a lifter noise that comes an goes. It could be perfectly quiet then out of no where start ticking, and quit just as fast. What could be doing this? I went to a synthetic oil 5w30 and added a lucus product to it
Answer:
what you are describing sounds like a lifter all right. The Lucas product you used is OK, but I would suggest a BG product known as MOA. I have had outstanding luck with this product curing the intermittent ticks of lifters. What were your oil change habits? Have you been faithfully changing every 3000-3500 miles? If not when you were on standard oil, the lifter is the most likely cause. Still would not suggest going over 5000 miles on the synthetic, even if it says it is a 7500, or 10000 mile oil. Oil still breaks down with mileage and loses its cleaning/lubricating properties, just scary to me that the manufacturers would say these things about oil.
