QUESTION:

we have a 93 deville with code e-41,cam sensor, if we clear code it comes back as soon as the car is started, the car will run rough, miss out at times, we have so far replace distributor, wiring in the distributor, computer and test the wiring between the computer and the distributor, we cannot find any thing wrong and do not know what else to try, any ideas ??

ANSWER:

Did the distributor come with a new cam sensor? or was this a rebuilt distributor that came with a cam sensor that was reused as so many rebuilder’s do now-a-days. The cam sensor is the number 1 reason for this issue. I’ve seen some people go through 2 or 3 before getting a good one aftermarket. Also ignition control modules can set this code. Finally make sure all the ignition control wiring at the computer has good connections, I’ve seen a few that have back-probed OK, but really had a poor connection at the terminal. Don’t assume the first rebuilt dist. is any good and that you are chasing your tail.
