It seems to have a lifter noise that comes an goes

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Question:

I have a 2004 sebring, with 45,000 miles. It seems to have a lifter noise that comes an goes. It could be perfectly quiet then out of no where start ticking, and quit just as fast. What could be doing this? I went to a synthetic oil 5w30 and added a lucus product to it

Answer:

what you are describing sounds like a lifter all right. The Lucas product you used is OK, but I would suggest a BG product known as MOA. I have had outstanding luck with this product curing the intermittent ticks of lifters. What were your oil change habits? Have you been faithfully changing every 3000-3500 miles? If not when you were on standard oil, the lifter is the most likely cause. Still would not suggest going over 5000 miles on the synthetic, even if it says it is a 7500, or 10000 mile oil. Oil still breaks down with mileage and loses its cleaning/lubricating properties, just scary to me that the manufacturers would say these things about oil.

We have a 2005 Chevy Impala that is overheating.

Published by admin under Uncategorized

QUESTION:

We have a 2005 Chevy Impala that is overheating. It happens after the car slows to a near stop or a full stop. Driving on the highway or city streets does not cause the overheating until the cars stops moving. There are no apparent leaks and the system is full of coolant. What can be causing this issue?

ANSWER:

This is typically caused by a non-functioning fan. As long as air is moving across the radiator it does not get hot, but when you stop moving there is no air moving across the radiator. So, either the fan itself or the fan relay is probably the reason the fan is not working.

CADILLAC DEVILLE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CODE E-41

Published by admin under Uncategorized

QUESTION:

we have a 93 deville with code e-41,cam sensor, if we clear code it comes back as soon as the car is started, the car will run rough, miss out at times, we have so far replace distributor, wiring in the distributor, computer and test the wiring between the computer and the distributor, we cannot find any thing wrong and do not know what else to try, any ideas ??

ANSWER:

Did the distributor come with a new cam sensor? or was this a rebuilt distributor that came with a cam sensor that was reused as so many rebuilder’s do now-a-days. The cam sensor is the number 1 reason for this issue. I’ve seen some people go through 2 or 3 before getting a good one aftermarket. Also ignition control modules can set this code. Finally make sure all the ignition control wiring at the computer has good connections, I’ve seen a few that have back-probed OK, but really had a poor connection at the terminal. Don’t assume the first rebuilt dist. is any good and that you are chasing your tail.

replaced 1 head gasket, now it wont start

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Question:

02 Grand Caravan 3.8 overheated replaced 1 head gasket, now it wont start, how do I check the timing on DIS? Has spark, I even gave a shot of starting fluid in intake, it seems to fire once in a while & sometimes a backfire from intake, what should i look for?

Answer;
you may have crossed the plug wires, make sure they are installed correctly. The timing on the engine is not able to be set. Also the lifters may have bled down when disassembled and you may need to crank it over for a while to build the oil pressure back up.

Firing Order 1-2-3-4-5-6
Cylinder Number (Front to Rear)
-Front Bank 2,4,6
-Rear Bank 1,3,5
