The Fuel Filter is an important part of the fuel system. On most all fuel injected vehicles the fuel filter is located underneath the chassis between the gas tank and the engine. Generally it is mounted on the frame rail and is usually access friendly. Some Asian Vehicles have a fuel filter located in the engine compartment toward the firewall.
Carbureted vehicles normally have a fuel filter mounted directly to the fuel line at the carburetor or between the fuel pump and carburetor. Video Instruction

Question:
I have a 1999 GMC Yukon 4.8 L V8 and I just changed my oil and a day later my “service engine soon” light came on, everything seams to be fine, can I do anything besides getting the code from the computer?
Answer:
As a rule the service engine light is not related to anything that would normally be done during an oil change, unless in the process someone happened to hit or unhook a connector going to a sensor. About all you could do would be to inspect the engine area and around the filter to see if something accidentally got unplugged and then plug it back in. Even if you do find a sensor the is unhooked and you connect it, understand that it may take a few ignition cycles before the light would turn itself off. The only other thing you could try would be to unhook the negative cable from the battery for a minute and see if it will reset the computer. Sometimes it will and sometimes it will not. Depends on what the code is and if the problem has been fixed or not and also on which system you have and what was affected. Other than that you are left with getting it scanned for codes. Just in case you are not aware. Auto Zone and Pep Boys will normally scan the system as a free service for you. If that happens, be sure to write down the codes so you can post them here and we will try to help. Very possible that it was just a coincidence that you had the oil changed.

Question:
My 1992 Ford Ranger wants to cut out. I have already replaced the fuel filter and that helped some but it still doesn”t idle correctly
Â
Answer:
The first thing I would recommend would be to extract any code that might be in the computer. This can be done with out a scan tool. Check Codes. Then you will want to correct any issue you find. If there are no codes, the next thing you will want to do will be to check your fuel pressure at idle should be 30 psi, if it is not you will need to replace the fuel pump.

You can follow the steps laid out in the overheating diagnostic chart . Basically, you need to make sure the cooling system is full of coolant in the radiator as well as the overflow tank and the system is bled properly if you had to add some coolant. Then you need to make sure there are no leaks by performing a pressure test on the cooling system. If there are any leaks, fix them. Then test the thermostat function and cooling fan function.
