Question:

Will a 1994 2.3L engine efi with auto trans fit in a 1986 2.3L 5 speed FI  Both are Ford Rangers.

Answer:

It will fit. but all the sensors and controls (computer) are different. So you will just want to swap out long blocks (engine and head assembly) for and easier swap. This will allow all the sensors and stuff to bolt up smoothly.

how does the fuel filter under the hood come off

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Question:

I have a 1994 Toyota Tercel 4 cyl. I got the top of filter off took the mounting bracket off the firewall got the bottom nut loose but now all the filter does is spin but does not come off. I got everything loose except the bottom of filter will not come loose

Answer:

The 14mm nut gets over torqued from the factory and it flares the fitting out to much and it damages the threads. The flare nut will come out it but it is very difficult and it may be damaged. You can use a thread file to dress up the threads to get it back in to the new filter.

keys that unlock the doors & trunk

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Question:

I bought a used 1994 Pontiac Firebird with one of those keys that unlock the doors & trunk. The original owners bought a new battery before selling it to me. The original owners said that the remote switch needed new batteries. I changed batteries and it still don’t work, is there something that need to be reprogrammed. The radio in the car don’t come on, I’m not sure if it needs to be reprogrammed or it simply don’t work. How can I tell? Already Tried: I tried pushing the buttons on the Remote Switch. I tried pushing the buttons on the radio. Nothing seems to work

Answer:

It looks like Courtesy Fuse #8 is connected to the radio, anti-theft and door lock system. Most likely you just need to replace this fuse and all will be well once more. for exact location look at the owners manual under”fuses” or look at the back of the fuse panel cover for diagram of locations. “FUSE #8″ is the fuse that ties all your problems together. This fuse : FUSE # 8 is the one you need to replace. If you look at the back of the fuse panel all the fuses are listed….look for “FUSE #8″

the a/c is blowing warm air

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Question:

I have just purchased a 2004 Civic…great little car except for one thing…the a/c is blowing warm air. Is this a common problem? Can I just get a recharge or do I have to take it into the dealership for them to do their $100 test before they tell me that is all I need?

Answer:

I would start first by opening the hood with the engine running and the A/C on and see if the fans are running and the compressor is turning. These vehicles are not really problematic with the A/C systems so there isn’t something “particular” that I can tell you to check. Its possible the refrigerant is low which you can buy at any autoparts store to recharge the a/c system with. Now if it has a leak, you will need someone who knows how to look for the leaks to test it. Air Conditiong Troubleshooting Guide

problems i can expect if i purchase a 1986 Chevy

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Question:

what are the problems i can expect if i purchase a 1986 Chevy Camper Van? and what price range is it in? there is an ad for this106K’s exc.condition, no rust, air, cruise,3 way fridge.$4995.. what kind of problems can i expect?

Answer:

1986 vehicles are the worst out there to buy. This particular year vehicle manufacturers used vacuum hoses to control everything and when you have a leak it is a nightmare to find the problem. And Chevy rear end axle bearings tend to need replacing every 120,000 miles.

The value based on 100,000 miles and in excellent condition is around 1,500 dollars.

my a/c compressor died

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Question:

I have a 1994 corolla and my a/c compressor died so i put a new one in and changed the expansion valve and drier but now i cannot get the a/c to turn on anymore. not even the little green light on the a/c button lights up. what could be the problem? could it be a fuse? i tried another a/c button from a working corolla and thats not the problem. i know the compressor is good because when i run power direct it turns on and the a/c gets cold.  I looked for the fuse for the a/c system but could not locate it  .

Answer:

There is a 15 amp a/c fuse in behind the right kick panel, check it.

Should I replace the master cylinder?

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Question:

I have a 2002 Toyota Highlander V6. Brakes bleed OK but once engine is started break travel is excessive. Should i replace the master cylinder? I tried Bleeding breaks adding break fluid, Replaced caliper on passenger side.

Answer:

Not always is this concern a failed master cylinder.

I recommend you perform about 3 more bleeds per wheel starting with the farthest from the master cylinder and working yourself closer. Now if the concern persists then buy some rubber brake hose clamp offs. Now clamp off the front brakes and try it and then do the rears. This will narrow it down to the front or rear to see if its is a concern at the wheels or a single wheel. If the concern still persists then I do believe the added pedal pressure with the booster being used is causing internal hydraulic bypass in the master cylinder.

window that goes up but won’t go down

Published by admin under Uncategorized

Question:

How do you fix a 1991 Honda Accord LX 4 door front passenger window that goes up but won’t go down and why would the motor turn when pressed up but do nothing when pressed down?

Answer:

You probably have a bad switch or connection at the switch. Can you remove the switch and look at the wiring connector plugging into the switch. And if it doesn’t work from the master switch either, there may be a broken wire from the master switch at the door jam ( most common location for wire break ).
